TO LAUGHTER: AMRITA GHOSH

A galore of guffaws—
Shrill laughter makes her entry,
Meaning runs away
The suppressed laugh comes to the fore,
With moistened eyes.
You change swiftly
Varying shades compete,
From rising giggles to slow chuckle.
Dancing chortle dies facing the curt snicker—
Meaning returns and reclines.
You fade away,
Leaving dregs of an incomplete elation.
Why do I always turn to you for repose?
