CHIAROSCURO: AUNINDYO CHAKRAVARTY

Last night it rained

You came and left
And with you
The wet wind has gone too
Leaving behind on the bamboo grove
A chiaroscuro of your light
You came, yet did not.

And at the window smoking
I thought of you
Down below, the ants
Hid beneath a rotting plank
In the garden
Where your fugitive footsteps
Speak
You came and yet did not

How true is your indifference ?
I know not
Yet your restless feet
Have smeared the grass
With an unknowing melancholy
You came and yet did not

Right then
On every leaf
Rain drops
Drop by drop
An endless sea of green
